Headlining will be Ann Brun. Produced by Valgeir Sigurdsson (Björk, Sigur Ros, Múm, Bonnie Prince Billy, Coco Rosie, Maps) her songs are surprising, at times strange, and they strike a nerve somewhere between bird-flight beauty and brooding melancholy with a haunting quality embedded in her melodies. Then Nils Bech. Bech is an integral part of the Norwegian art and music scene. Accompanied by a saxophonist he combines sparse acapella versions of contemporary and classical music with well-crafted electronica in a conceptual stage show laced with cabaret and contemporary dance. And last up Silje Nes. Newly signed to Fatcat Records, Silje delicately layers up twinkling melodies and ghostly electronics alongside her celestial other worldly vocals.

Fronting his own four-piece acoustic band, Fridge's bassist originally stepped out into the light with a wealth of beautiful songs in 2004. Perfectly arranged for acoustic guitars, autoharp, harmonium, percussion and double-bass Homesongs was much more song based and much less experimental than any of Fridge’s critically acclaimed back catalogue, slotting neatly and exquisitely into the nu-folk scene. His third album, to be released later this year, is simply called Takes. It is a stunning and evocative collection of interpretations of tracks released between 1991 - 2001, breathing new life into material from Bjork, Smashing Pumpkins, Yo La Tengo, Tortoise and Aphex Twin. Adem played every instrument and produced the whole record himself, no real surprise for a man of his talent.

'The Raven's Empire' is an exciting and unique collaboration between the group Oddfellows Casino, composer Andrew Philips, Brighton and Hove Youth Concert Band (a 30-piece ensemble of woodwind, brass and percussion) and avant garde musician , (whose work involves manipulation of radio signals and other electronic phenomena). To be performed at St Georges Church on
Sunday 25th May, the concert will blend music specially composed for the
Concert Band as accompaniment to the songs of Oddfellows Casino's with the soundscapes of Grant Newman. Loosely themed around tales of the supernatural, visual elements for the event will include scenes from Cocteau's Orphee (especially appropriate given the themes of the voice from the dead
being broadcast through radios during the film).

With 2006’s debut Through The Windowpane, Guillemots injected a much needed boost of alternativism into mainstream UK indie. With the likes of Keane and Coldplay grabbing all the headlines it could be argued that the scene had gone a little errr conservative. Digging up a plethora of ideas and vast array of unconventional sounds, bright colours and grand gestures their sound maximizes and intensifies every moment, every muttered word and every touch of emotion.“Here lie gorgeous tunes that are lithe enough to cope with the little bursts of sonic madness that flit around like overproduced Eighties butterflies.” Observer

Lykke Li’s debut performances in London left packed audiences pleasantly shell-shocked. A master of subtle delivery, leftfield arrangements, a lovelorn melody, and minimalist brilliance, there's sticking power coursing through her veins. Through the layered, multi-instrumental flavour of her music - you’ll hear harpsichords, flutes, and theremins - there’s a perfect balance of city and suburb that pours from the organic, digital feel of her songs and her sumptuously fragile yet jarringly brutal lyricism tells tales of her extraordinary life. Produced by Bjorn Yttling, of Peter, Bjorn and John fame, Lykke Li is yet another reason why Moshi Moshi are so dam consistent.

Pretty much every journo worth his salt came back from this year’s SXSW in Texas ranting and raving about Fleet Foxes. From Seattle this quintet describe their music as "baroque harmonic pop jams.” Changing shape constantly, their pastoral psych-pop takes in elements of classic rock, church music, old-timey folk and, with a heavy use of reverb, it is easy to understand the healthy comparisons to My Morning Jacket and Band of Horses.
If that wasn’t enough this is in fact a duel headline tour with label mates Beach House. From Baltimore this duo sip from the same cup as Mazzy Star, Galaxie 500, Spiritualized, and Slowdive. “Their delicate, lovelorn pop comes in the form of deathly waltzes and dark pastoral dirges on which Legrand sings about desire, loss, and dreams as if telling a ghost story, splitting the difference between lovely and creepy.” Pitchfork Media

If you’d have taken a bet at the start of 2006 on which influential members of which cult bands would forge creative links with shining results you’d never have put Ms. Beautiful & Delicate Indie (Belle and Sebastian) with Mr. Grunge King of Stoner Metal (Screaming Trees, Queens of the Stone Age), but this is what we were offered and what a flawless duo they make. Campbell’s airy Scottish whispers combined with Lanegan’s worn in husky growl make for remarkable listening and with a second album due out in May it looks like this pairing is thankfully set to continue. This is one of only four UK dates and after last years super quick sell out at the Komedia I’d advise everyone to get in early.“Feather light and swimming in echo, Campbell sounds like a teenage ghost … She doesn't so much sing words as inhabit a celestial space above the acoustic guitars, violin and cellos while Lanegan settles in to a close approximation of American Recordings-era Johnny Cash.“ BBC

The multi-skilled musical phenomenon that is Joan Wasser – classically trained violin player, street taught punk rocker, old soul aficionado, vocal diva - returns to Brighton with a new album in tow. A collection of songs she wrote mostly in the shadow of her mother’s battle with cancer, which ended in her death last year, To Survive centres on Joan as piano player and singer. Joan found her solo feet aa few years aog when Rufus Wainwright invited her to open his shows. She recorded her first album intermittently during this touring with Rufus.
“Wasser’s sensual ululations decorate songs that run the gamut, from sinuous funk nocturnes to toy piano reveries. Arresting stuff. “ BBC

It was whilst on tour with The Artic Monkeys as The Little Flames that these three lads from The Wirral split from the other Flames and formed The Rascals (More recently singer Miles Kane joined up with Alex Turner to form The Last Shadow Puppets- the next super group me thinks). Since then they have taken their beautiful pop melodies and psychedelic quirk, all underpinned by a compelling dark soul, to larger and larger stages. Heavily backed by the NME these scousers have a natural catchiness about their sound that most of the rest of the contents of Britain’s “favourite” music rag would barter all their skinny jeans for.

With a honeyed voice akin to Kirsty MacColl, that can cover the full spectrum from timorous to husky baritone within a couple of bars, Thea Gilmore is a real homegrown talent. Combine these unmistakable vocals with her ear for melody, with sounds that recall classic American recordings from the West Coast to Greenwich Village via Texas and the Mississippi Delta, her poetic indie folk embodies both a glossy sheen and stark, eerie acoustic textures.

Deerhunter began in 2001 with the ambition of fusing the lulling hypnotic states induced by ambient and minimalist music with the klang and propulsion of garage rock. The band has weathered chaotic line-up changes and the death of a member, finally releasing last year’s genre bending ambient-punk document, Cryptograms. Fusing the lush shoegaze of My Bloody Valentine with the freak-out guitar structures of Sonic Youth their sound is one not easily described, nor pigeon-holed, and this is what makes what can only be termed their ‘sonic identity’ so alluring. Maybe Drowned In Sound can help out here:
“An undulating patchwork of attention-deficit kraut-punk squalls and intoxicating and enveloping sound collages that sweep the listener up in a broad clutch, a giant’s palm, taking them on a journey through their own misfiring synapses; it’s soul-infused and passionate, born from hearts troubled and minds razor-sharp.” Drowned In Sound
Support comes from one of the pick Brooklyn’s current crop of uber cool bands High Places. The hypnotic tropical universe of this duo layers bursts of starry pop psychedelia with bass-heavy poly-rhythms, glistening astral reverb and singer Mary Pearson's innocent vocals.
