May promises to be a fabulous month for live music, here are our diverse range of events during May from energetic indie, to dark-noir Americiana, to Electronica pioneers, and more.
Thursday 9th May
Joanna & The Dropouts + Call Me Franco play The Prince Albert, Brighton.
Brighton’s Joanna And The Dropouts infuse their music with catchy riffs and surf-tinged guitar sounds. Recommended for fans of The Cramps, The B52’s and John Waters films.

Wednesday 22nd May
The Handsome Family + Frontier Ruckus play Brighton Komedia.
“Dark, elemental, mischievous and mournful” ~ Mojo
The Handsome Family (songwriting and marriage partners Brett and Rennie Sparks) are purveyors of wonderfully dark and stormy noir Americana.
Their eleventh studio album, Hollow (which was out September 2023) delves into the natural world at the edges of the man-made.
It is a record lush with leaves and shadows and echoing with occult mystery. Oh and they contributed a track to Guy Richie’s ‘Gentleman’ series.

The Handsome Family + Frontier Ruckus play Folkestone Quarterhouse.Purveyors of wonderfully dark and stormy noir Americana.

Saturday 25th May
AK/DK + special guests play Lewes Con Club.
A joyful storm of synth loops, beats and beeps. The Brighton duo create beautiful improvised layers of fuzzed-up synths, delays and thunderous double drums. A rare Sussex performance for the electro pioneers. 8pm, £18 + bf in advance.
